JUVENILE DELINQUENCY
AND PENALTIES APPLIED

Abstract: Cases concerning juvenile delinquency take a certain proportion in all the criminal cases today. However, for a juvenile delinquent, the charge of criminal responsibilities and the application of penalties are strikingly different from those for an adult criminal. This paper is to present a preliminary study on the conviction of a juvenile delinquent with regard to his/her age as defined in the criminal law, with a conclusion that, according to the fundamental principles of criminal law and the features of juveniles, penalties like capital punishment, life imprisonment, deprivation of political rights and expropriation cannot be applied to juvenile delinquents.
